About ExcludesNI

What is this?

ExcludesNI is the Northern Ireland Shopping Availability Index — a database of UK retailers and their delivery status to Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland consumers regularly find themselves excluded from UK delivery networks due to the Windsor Framework and Irish Sea border customs complexity introduced after Brexit.

We track which retailers deliver to NI (BT postcodes), which don't, which add surcharges, and which have restrictions — and we show verified alternatives when a retailer won't deliver.

How we verify information

Every delivery status on this site is a dated, scoped observation — not an editorial characterisation. We record what a retailer's own delivery page stated on a specific date, or what was observed at checkout. Where possible we include:

  • The source URL (delivery page or help article)
  • The verification date
  • A confidence level: high, medium, or low
  • The verification method (manual review, checkout test, etc.)

Statuses older than 90 days are flagged as “pending recheck” — retailer policies change and we aim to keep information current. Always verify directly with the retailer before purchase.

Six-status taxonomy

We use six statuses rather than a simple yes/no to capture the reality NI consumers face:

  • 🟢 Delivers — delivers to NI without restriction or surcharge
  • 🔴 Excluded — confirmed: does not deliver to NI
  • 🟠 Restricted — delivers to NI but with category, size, or postcode restrictions
  • 🟡 Surcharge — delivers to NI with an additional delivery charge
  • 🔵 Product dependent — depends on the individual product or seller (e.g. Amazon marketplace)
  • ⚪ Unknown — we don't have verified information yet

Garden & plant delivery

The garden category has a permanent note: the NI Plant Health Label scheme requires both the GB sender AND the NI recipient to be registered professional DAERA operators for the movement of GB-grown plants and seeds. Consumer mail-order is excluded from the scheme entirely. This is why retailers like Crocus exclude NI — it's a regulatory constraint, not a commercial choice. Corrections & transparency

All status changes are recorded in our public corrections log. If information is wrong or out of date, you can submit a correction.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you buy through an affiliate link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence which alternatives we list or how statuses are assigned — both are based on verified delivery information only.

Submissions

You can submit a report about any retailer. Submissions are one-way — we cannot reply to individual reports and submitter details are not published. All submissions go through human review before appearing on the site. This is a requirement under the Online Safety Act (OSA) Schedule 1 limited functionality exemption.
